American Artist: William Harrison Scarborough
Jacksonian Era Boy
Identified by the Initials "D. W."
American
circa 1845
by William Harrison Scarborough (ca. 1810-1856)
2 x 2 7/16 inches (sight)
watercolor on ivory; housed under glass in a gilt copper case with a cast foliate
border and bail, a compartment to reverse containing plaited hair,
and engraved initials of "D. W." to the reverse
(background appears to have experienced some water damage and restoration
at some point, thus masking much of Scarborough's tell-tale background hatch work)
