A handwritten note by the artist to the reverse of the portrait reads,
"Joan, daughter of A. Hacking, Esquire / Miss Ida F. Laidman,
The Studio, Kensington Court Garages, W8".

watercolor on ivory; housed under glass in a gilt metal surround
that was likely originally set within a larger wooden frame
